Secrets of "The Covenant"

Saw "The Covenant" tonight at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. First of all, I love seeing horror movies on opening night. Secondly, I love seeing horror movies in theaters this huge. So I was going to have fun regardless of the fact that it was obviously a B-movie that happened to have an extremely big budget!
So here's my thoughts without ruining anything for you. The best thing about the movie is the eye candy. There's plenty of half-naked guys to oogle and even some nearly naked chicks along the way -- all of whom look like they've been plucked out of the most recent A&F catalog. This alone really is worth the price of admission.
But the other really great thing about it is the screenplay. The idea here is that every time the members of this covenant use their magical powers, it kills their body a little more. But having that much power can be addictive so, of course, you want to use it all the time. But you don't want to end up looking like you're 150 when you're only 30, so you've gotta have some balance.
It's heavy on the metaphors, especially when it comes to the covenant's "powers" being like drugs -- it'll hurt your body, it's highly addictive and if that's not enough they call working their magic "using." But what I walked away from the movie with, as a person with strong spiritual beliefs, is that we all have power in this world and how we manage that power, whether we use it for good or evil, where we pull out "luck" cards, etc. all play a part in the erosion of ourselves, physically and metaphysically. It made me think about how much power each of us actually hold, how much we acknowledge our own capabilities and how the decisions we make in every second of our lives shape what our future will be.
Now, make no mistake though! That's just me talking my crazy spiritual talk. "Ghandi" this movie ain't! But it's entertaining enough.
